Question

Hello. I planned on getting divorced and met with an attorney. I signed a contract and gave him a retainer fee of $5000.00. We met for one hour. I'm reconsidering getting divorced. Can I brake the contract and get my money back?

Answer

You may be able to recover a portion of your retainer depending on how much work the attorney has already done on your behalf.

Answer

The answer is "Yes!" But the attorney is entitled to compensation for the time spent on your case up to the time you notify him or her of the termination of the representation. Act quickly to avoid problems. Do everything in writing and keep copies
