Question

I am a dentist that lives and practices in NJ. I am self-employed and my practice is an LLC. I am a 50% partner/member of the LLC. I am pregnant and want to know if I am eligible to receive benefits under the NJ temporary disability program which covers 4 weeks before and 6 weeks after delivery. I can no longer perform my job since I am in my last month of pregnancy. I did receive these benefits when I was employed by another doctor several years ago but I am not sure that I will qualify now that I am self-employed.

Answer

The law does not cover owners.
