I signed up for Obamacare through Covered CA back in November or December and never received a bill for my first payment, all I received was a letter saying that I was not eligible for the assistance that I had requested. I didn't make much at the time and what I had chosen was all I could afford so I just decided to go without coverage. When I checked online on Covered CA in February it said I was enrolled, which confused me cause I never received a bill. Then in June I received my January bill from Health Net. I made my payment and sent off a check and never heard a word back from them other than seeing that the check cleared. After three weeks and never seeing an insurance card I called them and they said that I was NOT enrolled and that my application had been purged back in December. I asked them why I had been mailed a bill in June and they had no clue. I then asked them about my check and they had NO record that I had paid anything, yet they still cashed the check. I told them I just wanted a refund on that amount and that I had proof from my bank, which I faxed them. I have called numerous times over the past month, and no one can seem to find record of my check, even though it says on the copy of the check transcript from Chase that their bank cashed it. No one can give me any kind of logical explanation as to why they can't find it and can't honor my request for a refund. All I want is my money back! To me this is stealing. It is as if they took money out of my pocket! They never responded to my fax with proof from Chase and each time I talk to someone they say they have to "investigate" and get a hold of accounting and call me back but they never do. I am fed up with dealing with them and don't know what my next step should be with this process.
Answer
Take them to a small claims court. Also file a complaint with the department of managed health care.
