Question

Good Evening,

Last night I was driving and I asked my friend to step inside a 7-11 store and get a couple cups. When he returned, I noticed he had two slurpee plastic cups and he mentioned that he had taken them. The store owner came outside and took down my license plate number. I offered to pay for the cups or return them but he was content with taking down my license plate number. The vehicle is registered in my fathers name. Is there an arrest warrant out for my father, me, or nobody. I am concerned about driving the same vehicle (although I live in another town) and getting pulled over if the license is ran by law enforcement. What consequences am I facing and do you recommend turning myself in or are there other alternatives?

Answer

Its impossible to answer your question with any specificity. If a report was made to the police, they could have opened an investigation into theft. You should consider getting a lawyer to look into the matter. I wish you well.....david

Answer

I agree with Mr. Wallin. If this happened last night it is too early for a warrant to be issued. If they are going to issue a warrant, and for two empty paper cups I doubt it, it will probably be after the first.

The important thing for you is do not talk to the police. If the police come to your door or stop your car, refuse to talk to them. Insist upon having a lawyer present. It is your Constitutional right. Also, unless they have a search warrant, do not let them search your car or your vehicle. Again it is guaranteed by the Constitution.

Good luck
