Question

My daughter just moved back to georgia to her in laws house. Everyone there is on meth. I need to get custody of my grand kids due to their safety issues. I live in texas. They lived here up till this pass Tuesday. What are my rights an how do I get lawyer to help me when I don't have money for lawyer?

Answer

You can call the child protection services in GA and see if they will pick up the child. Or call the police and have the house raided. That protects the kids immediately.

You will then have to go to GA to try to get custody of the children.

If you had primary custody of the children for over 6 months in your home without the parents present, then you might have standing to ask a TX court to grant you primary custody.

You truly need to talk to a family law attorney in Texas about your grandparent rights.

Look on this website and on www.avvo.com for an attorney.

You need to find the money to hire an attorney. The pro se organizations are backed up months and time is of the essence to protect these children.
