A horrible accident occurred in July, 2013 making me disabled. I worked for company since October, 2011. I have been on STD since accident and am not sure when I will return. FMLA has not been mentioned. Should I pursue it now to protect myself?

Yes. Talk to your employer about your long-term disability options. Your employer might have a long-term disability insurance policy. Additionally, if you are injured such that you cannot foresee a return to work, you should also begin researching Social Security Disability.
