Question

My landlord (who is also a realtor) gave me the keys and a lease prior to hoa approval. He swore we were approved with our dog, but we weren't. We now have to move December 1. He verbally agreed to cancel the lease and to call it a wash since I paid for movers and documentation for my dog. He is now claiming the lease is invalid because our dog wasn't approved. He left a notice on my door to either pay $15,930 or vacate within 3 days. I do not want an eviction on my record. I'm debating calculating the rent, deducting my expenses, and paying him the difference. This man went from Mr. Nice Guy assuring us we were approved to now telling my realtor he will make my life miserable until I pay rent.

Answer

The lease agreement you signed controls the rights and obligations. You need that lease agreement reviewed by an attorney.
