Question

(Iowa) I divorced my ex 2 years ago and our eldest started college this fall. My ex refuses to help out at all because she gets grants, 3 of us live on $24000 so she gets her tuition covered. I am supposed to be in college with $924 of that money but the needs of the eldest child, she has mental health issues and doesn't drive, along with the 13yr old keep me from being able to attend school and I am forced to try and find work that will allow me to be there for the kids when they need me to be.

Their father ,my husband for 17 years, makes about $100,000 a year so is quite financially able to help the college student with some living expenses.

I was told to file a motion to make her father help but I don't know if her living expenses would be allowed as costs he needs to help with? Thank you for any help!

Answer

You'll need an attorney to sort these facts out. I suggest you contact someone who practices in the field.
