Question

Can you get away with a Hit and Run for property damage, if you can prove that you were in danger or distress such as being in a fight? My friend hit me before I could put the car in park and the car bumped into a gate. I left to avoid a fight and I have pictures of my face cut and swollen from taking punches to the face. I also released a statement with police after they found me and pulled me over. The police documented that my face was obviously messed up. Can I just pay property damages and have nothing else on my record? What are my chances?

Answer

That sounds more like mitigation for sentencing than a defense to the charge. However, you might have other defenses. Consider seeking a confidential consultation with an experienced criminal defense attorney, in order to evaluate your options.
