My husband just got a job with good pay and benefits, but my oldest daughter is not his and we are going to need to move if he takes the job. My question is I have joint custody of her with her biological father but I have a domestic violence conviction against me, will this prevent me from being granted a request to move about 120 miles away?
Answer
There is a michigan statute that governs a move like this. The domestic violence conviction should not play a role however, I would need more information to asses your chances. I have assisted other parents many times with their change of domicile requests. Feel free to contact me to discuss. You should have an attorney assist you.
Answer
You should contact a local attorney to assist you. These are not always easy moves, and a lot of facts come into play.
The domestic violence conviction could come into play depending upon when the incident took place, where and the victim (e.g. current or ex). Meet with an attorney to discuss your options. Good luck.
