Question

Suppose I wanted to sell purses in a similar style as Gucci. I think the people who like Gucci would be fond of my purses. In my online listings, am I breaking any laws if I were to say something like, "Mirroring a Gucci style", or "Gucci -esque", but then making it clear in the listing that my product is not at all related to Gucci?

Answer

What you may be doing is profiting from the Gucci name and reputation without sharing your profits with Gucci. Gucci probably doesn't think that would be fair/ The Gucci name and products are most likely protected by copyright and patent registrations which you might be violating if you proceed as you've outlined. It would be very wise to ask Gucci's permission before you do anything involving their products or name.
