Question

I lost my job over a year ago and have not had any luck in getting another one. I just received a warrant in debt today. It is a debt that I owe and I did notify them that I lost my job and that I would notify them when I had a new and could make a payment. I am the only one on the account, but I am married. Can they garnish my spouses check? what can I do? we do not have the money to pay.

Answer

No, this creditor cannot garnish your spouse's wages if you're the only

one listed on this now delinquent account.

Nonetheless, even if you're not now in a position to pay anything on this debt, you should still contact the creditor to inform them of your situation to see what might be possibly worked out that could possibly avoid a judgment being entered against you that could later be enforced (my opinion).
