I have an employee who gave me his two week notice today (along with a doctors note stating he is unable to work for the next two weeks). Can I cancel his health insurance effective today or do I have to keep him on our plan until his resignation date of May 12th? He has no sick or vacation time.



Answer

Do not act on 'free anonymous hints and tips' to make serious business decisions.

Generally the company can immediately terminate anyone giving 'notice', and then would give COBRA conversion notice effective that date. That he was also 'sick' brings in possible leave and retaliation issues. SO...
