Yesterday we signed a lease and paid for the apartment. This morning they call and say there are termianting it and would not state why. I have a checkered past from over 12 years from when I was 19. I was arrested. It was not on the application and neither one asked. If it was brought up, I would have been honest as I always am. I asked if thats why and he started to say yes and then said he does not want to get into it. Isn't that discrimination? Isn't that illegal?

Generally, a lease may not be terminated unilaterally by a landlord unless the lease gives him that right. His right to do so would have to be written in the lease. Or, a right to terminate based upon specific reasons, but those reasons must be spelled out in the lease. Did he cash your check or deposit your cash. That also would be in your favor. Seek counsel.
