Question

I am 18 years old and live in the state of Illinois. About five months ago I was caught drinking underage at a party in Michigan. I received a drinking ticket for underage drinking, not a DUI. After that incident, I paid my fines, went on probation which required me to complete community service. At the end of my probation period the judge dismissed the case.

A week ago, back in Illinois, I received a letter from the Secretary of State saying that my license will be suspended for one year. I have the opportunity to speak with a judge, but I'm confused to how this is happening.

Is this right? Can they suspend my license even though Michigan dismissed the case?

Answer

Yes.
