If someone mistakenly removes boxes from a "vacant " home ..., thinking that the stuff is abandoned..., only to find out later that the old tenants wanted to come back and pick-up the stuff , what can be done to fix the problem? oh yes.., they already called the cops and filed a report for theft.

As a Former Deputy District Attorney, who has handled cases like yours, I can suggest retaining an attorney and giving the property to your counsel, and then your lawyers could give the items back to law enforcement without telling the authorities who their client was or who gave the lawyers the property in question. We did a case like that and no charges were ever filed against our client. I hope that helps.......David Wallin
